Cleaning Tips For Your Washington Ave. Apartments

April 9th, 2020

We work hard to keep our Washington Ave. apartments clean from top to bottom. It’s one of the things we pride ourselves on, but we know how much work and time it takes. You may find yourself in panic cleaning mode right now or with a little extra time on your hands, so we wanted to share some cleaning tips and hacks to keep your Washington Ave apartments squeaky clean.

Recipes for Homemade Cleaners

Many of our local Houston grocery stores are out of cleaning supplies right now, but did you know you might already have ingredients in your kitchen that will do the trick? Check out a few homemade recipes for everyday, multipurpose cleaners:

Kitchen Cleaner and Deodorizer:

4 tablespoons baking soda

1 quart warm water

Baking soda is a wonderful cleaning agent and can be used for so many things. Not only does it help shine stainless steel, but it also serves as a deodorizer. You can even pour it directly down your garbage disposal to remove odors.

Homemade Glass Cleaner:

2 cups water

½ cup white vinegar or cider vinegar

¼ cup rubbing alcohol (70% concentration)

Our best tip for cleaning mirrors and windows is to use a coffee filter, as it won’t leave streaks. Avoid cleaning windows on a hot and sunny day, as that will dry the solution faster, causing streaks.

Tile and Wood Floor Cleaner:

1 cup of white vinegar

1 gallon of warm (not hot) water

Use mop or towel

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

1 cup of vinegar will work to clean your toilet seat and lid. Just spray and wipe off with a cloth or towel. If you don’t have actual toilet bowl cleaner, you can use baking soda (we told you this was a handy thing to keep in your apartment) and scrub with a towel, cloth, or toilet bowl brush.

Apartment Cleaning Hacks

For any cleaning solutions, homemade or store-bought, be sure that your Washington Ave apartment is well ventilated with windows open and your ceiling fans on. You can also add any essential oils or a lemon rind to most cleaning solutions for a more appealing smell.

Always read the labels on cleaning supplies, as many suggest leaving the solution to soak on the surface up to 10-minutes. This will not only ensure you are using your product to its desired state, you likely won’t have to use as much elbow grease to clean your apartment.

Safely store your products. Make sure they aren’t in the direct sunlight, and properly store them so pets and children can’t reach them. If you make any homemade disinfectant recipes, be sure to empty them out and clean well, or clearly label them. With any cleaning agents, it’s always wise to test a small area first.
