The Jackson Hill offers one of the most convenient locations in all of Houston. But probably our favorite thing is having Buffalo Bayou Park less than .5 miles from us, making an afternoon stroll, or run, or bike ride, or rollerblading session easy to do after work or on the weekends.
There are so many great parks in the city of Houston, but we’re quite biased with Buffalo Bayou Park, which is 160-acres of beautiful green space just west of downtown Houston. That’s right, our Washington apartments are also incredibly close to downtown Houston. We told you we had an amazing location.
What is Buffalo Bayou Park?
In a nutshell, here’s how they describe the green space on their website: Buffalo Bayou Park includes beautiful gardens and native landscaping; hike and bike trails; paddle craft and bike rentals; the go-to dog park in the city; public art; a creative nature play area; two visitor centers; and gathering places for visitors to picnic, relax and enjoy outdoor activities. Buffalo Bayou Partnership maintains and operates the park with annual funding provided by the Downtown Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) #3.
We personally think it’s just one of the coolest things to do in Houston. Hang out in the park with a picnic, meet up with friends do a fun photoshoot, or get in a good workout at a number of spots throughout the park.
Lost Lake Is Beautiful
Looking for a little water to check out near Buffalo Bayou Park? Well you don’t have to look far, thanks to Lost Lake, which is a restored pond located near a visitor center housing restrooms; paddle craft rentals; and not to mention The Dunlavy. The Dunlavy is probably one of our favorite brunch spots located within walking distance from our Washington apartments and is probably one of the most Instagram-worthy brunch spots in all of Houston! It’s also an event space and the detail and décor at The Dunlavy is great. Many of our residents hit up their counter lunch before or after a workout, which makes for the perfect afternoon.
Want To Hike?
You can download a map of Buffalo Bayou Park to include all the hikes, trails, and other fun things to see and do at Buffalo Bayou Park. Knowing how to navigate 160-acres can be pretty daunting, but we love exploring the entire park on foot, or by bike. We also love seeing some of Houston’s best artwork scattered throughout or catching a glimpse of downtown Houston’s skyline.
Did You Know The Park Also Has A Skatepark?
The Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark is a 30,000 square-foot in-ground facility overlooking Buffalo Bayou, which welcomes skaters of all levels, plus serves as a great place to meet up with friends and cheer on the local skateboarders. The park is free and open to the public. Please note that helmets are required for riders.
Still not sure what to do? Check out all the events and tours offered at Buffalo Bayou Park.
Did you know there are four pedestrian bridges at Buffalo Bayou Park? You’ve got Shepherd Bridge, Rosemont Bridge, Jackson Hill Bridge (which is our favorite, for obvious reasons), and Carruth Bridge, which all add a little more character and charm to the park, and often make for great photos.
